Rotasure – Abbott 

Indication and Usage –

  • Rotasure is indicated for active immunization of infants from the age of 6 weeks for the prevention of gastroenteritis due to rotavirus infection when administered as a 3-dose series.

Dosage and Administration –

  • Rotasure is for oral use only and should not be injected.
  • Rotasure should be administered as a 3-dose regimen, 4 weeks apart, beginning at 6 weeks of age.

Contraindications –

  • Hypersensitivity to any component of the vaccine. Individuals who develop symptoms suggestive of hypersensitivity after receiving a dose Rotasure should not receive further doses of it.
  • Individuals with Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Disease (SCID). Cases of gastroenteritis associated with live rotavirus vaccines have been reported in infants SCID
  • History of intussusception (IS).

Adverse reactions –

  • Common side effects of Rotasure Oral Vaccine include Sore throat, running nose.
  • Usually, these side effects of Rotasure Oral Vaccine go away soon, and do not persist beyond the duration of the treatment. If, however, they worsen or do not go away, please speak with your physician.

Drug interactions and other interactions –

  • No interaction studies have been performed in infants with other medicinal products, for use with other vaccines.
  • Rotasure is a pediatric vaccine and should not be administered to adults including pregnant women.
  • There was no evidence to suggest that breast-feeding reduced the protection against rotavirus gastroenteritis conferred by Rotasure.
